This 1972 Jeep Commando wagon was acquired by the seller in Missouri in March 2019 and subsequently refurbished and modified. This 1972 Jeep Commando wagon was acquired by the seller in Missouri in March 2019 and subsequently refurbished and modified. The body-off refurbishment reportedly included lengthening the front bodywork by five inches to accommodate the Cummins engine. The truck was then repainted in light green. White 16″ steel wheels wear polished Jeep covers and are wrapped in 235/85 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. The spare is mounted to a rear swing-out carrier. The front suspension was reportedly modified to use YJ Wrangler springs, and braking is handled by power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drums.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench re-trimmed in white vinyl along with a matching dash pad and door panel inserts. Sound deadening material is reportedly installed under the tan carpets, and additional equipment includes air conditioning, a center console with two cup holders, a roll bar, a fire extinguisher, and “Cummins Commando” badging on the glove box door.
The white two-spoke steering wheel is mounted to a tilting steering column and frames a 110-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 91k miles.
The 2.8-liter Cummins turbodiesel inline-four features Bosch fuel injection and was factory rated at 161 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The seller notes a custom 30-gallon fuel tank was installed during the refurbishment and that the vehicle is biodiesel compatible.
The seller states that the drivetrain consists of a five-speed NV3550 manual transmission, a dual-range Dana 300 transfer case, a Dana 30 open front axle with a 3.73:1 ring and pinion, and a Dana 44 rear end with an Eaton TrueTrac limited-slip differential.
