This 1965 Mustang Coupe is powered by a 289ci A-code V8 paired with a five-speed manual transmission and is finished in burgundy over black vinyl. The car is said to have undergone a refurbishment in 2015 with work including a two-stage repaint, rebuilding the engine, replacing the exterior trim, reupholstering the interior, and installing a Tremec transmission. Equipment includes 14″ styled steel wheels, a white side stripe, chrome trim, a Rally-Pac style tachometer, and a push-button AM radio, a Pertonix electronic ignition system, reproduction Hi-PO exhaust manifolds, an aluminum radiator, a Monte Carlo bar, and 3.55:1 rear gearing. The car was purchased by the current owner in April 2017, and work completed during their ownership includes installing seat belts and replacing the oil sending unit.
This car has reportedly been refinished in two-stage Vintage Burgundy (X) with a white side stripe, chrome bumpers and window surrounds, and dual side mirrors. Features include special badging, chrome exhaust tips exiting through the rear valence, and grille-mounted fog lights.
Reproduction 14″ styled wheels wear pony center caps and 215/70 BFGoodrich Silvertown redline tires. The car is equipped with with disc brakes up front, drums in the rear, and a Kelsey Hayes proportional valve. Work completed during the refurbishment is said to have included lowering the ride height, installing a Monte Carlo bar, and replacing the brake lines, parking brake cable, shocks, suspension bushings, upper and lower control arms, end links, wheel bearings, and axle bearings.
The cabin features reupholstered black vinyl bucket seats along with a replacement dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. Additional interior components reportedly replaced include the weather seals, rearview mirror, visors, door handles, window cranks, pedal covers, shifter boot and bezel, and fog light switch. The car is equipped with a push-button AM radio, rubber floor mats, and vent windows.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a 140-mph speedometer, Rally-Pac style tachometer and analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 55k miles.
The A-code 289ci V8 has a 1965 stamping date and was reportedly bored over 0.030″ and rebuilt using replacement pistons, valves, valve springs, valve seats, hardened pushrods, roller-tip rockers, and a double roller timing chain. An Autolite 4100 4-V carburetor is installed along with a Pertronix electronic ignition system, Cobra aluminum valve covers, a black painted aluminum radiator, reproduction Hi-PO exhaust manifolds, and a rebuilt Carter fuel pump. The battery was replaced in 2017, and a replacement oil sending unit was installed in 2021.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Tremec T5 five-speed manual transmission installed in 2015. The clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing were also replaced at that time, and 3.55:1 gears were installed in the Ford 8″ rear end.
