This 1979 Dodge Li’l Red Express Truck was sold new in January 1980 by Pyramid Motors of Poland, Ohio, and the seller acquired it from the second owner in early 2021. Powered by a 360ci V8 fitted with a Holley carburetor and linked to a three-speed automatic transmission, the truck is finished in red with gold-colored graphics over a black vinyl interior. Equipment includes an oak-trimmed bed, 15×8″ chrome wheels, power steering, and power brakes. Maintenance performed in April 2021 included an oil change and charging the air conditioning.
Introduced for 1978, the Li’l Red Express was based on the Dodge D150 pickup with the Utiline stepside bed, and 5,118 copies were produced for the 1979 model year, which was distinguished by stacked quad headlamps, a flatter hood, and a revised grille. The model came finished in Medium Canyon Red (PY3450) with an oak-trimmed bed, gold-colored pinstriping and graphics, chrome bumpers, and vertical exhaust stacks behind the cab.
Chrome-finished slotted 15″ wheels are mounted with 265/75 Firestone Destination LE2 tires showing 2017 date codes. The truck is equipped with front disc and rear drum brakes as well as a snap-on tonneau cover and yellow fog lights, which the seller notes are not operational.
The cab features a black vinyl bench seat with belts for three occupants along with a color-matched dashboard and carpeting plus door panels with woodgrain trim. The truck has an AM/FM radio, and controls for a Calfax Horn A-Plenty musical car horn are mounted under the dashboard (the horn is not working at this time). A jack is stowed behind the seat.
A three-spoke Tuff steering wheel frames an 85-mph speedometer along with gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, voltage, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 17k miles.
The 360ci V8 was factory rated at 225 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque and delivers power to the rear wheels. Features include an air cleaner with a polished cover and “360 Express” graphics as well as a Holley carburetor. The air conditioning was charged and an oil change was performed at B&B Foreign Car Service of Chagrin Falls, Ohio in April 2021, at which time the speedometer cable was replaced.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. Records show that Tuff-Kote undercoating was applied in January 1980.
Manufacturer’s literature is included along with 1980 purchase documents from Pyramid Motors, the factory shipping order, as well as service records and other paperwork from 1980 through 2021.
